A 1956 spring soil moisture survey shows Nebraska wheat areas have more surface moisture than last year but less subsoil moisture. Tests across 129 winter wheat fields from April 26 to May 4 found average moisture depth at 42.5 inches, near 1947–54 average, with topsoil saturation down sharply from last year.

Underpass Project Construction Work Ahead Of Schedule
The 13th Ave underpass project in Sidney is about 23 percent done with 15 percent of time elapsed. Final completion is expected in October. A four man inspection party including Henry Schlitt and L O Grahma viewed the ahead of schedule subway. Pumps to drain the underpass will handle 1,500 gallons per minute. The roadway will be 15 feet wide with an east sidewalk.
