Exon to address WNTC graduates on May 13

Governor J J Exon will speak at Western Nebraska Technical College Tenth Annual Commencement on May 13 at 2 pm in the college gymnasium. Seventy-one students are eligible for graduation. invitations have been sent to parents and dignitaries, with Gary Abke to give invocation and benediction.

Cheyenne County Chamber Sets Busy Week Of Plans

The Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce board outlines a major week with a door to door membership drive targeting at least 25 new members and a 1 05 p m Thursday kickoff with a loudspeaker system. A separate committee will begin screening candidates to hire a new manager, chaired by B E Stewart and Bill Maddox with Dick Fix and John Laing representing the board.

Booster club idea raised at county chamber meeting

Thursday discussion centered on forming booster clubs for each county community. Stewart and Taewoun Wut aoncu vy Frepluent PFIX prepared a report for the next meeting. Stewart suggested the chamber lacks an outreach group and booster clubs could act as a public relations arm. A vote of thanks was given to Sherri Robinson and the Ladies Division for aiding membership efforts. The board read Jim Worth of Dalton’s resignation letter without comment.

Big Four Warn Soviets Over West Berlin Ties

Britain France and West Germany, with President Carter, warned the Soviet Union that any move against West Berlin would threaten detente. The leaders met at Downing Street before Carter’s Geneva trip with Assad, Giscard d Estaing, and Schmidt. A four power declaration pledged cooperation to keep West Berlin stable and warned detente would be seriously threatened if any signatory power failed to respect quadripartite agreements.

Sidney volunteers urge fair terms on fire hall beer ban

Sidney Volunteer Fire Department leaders head to the City Council to press for consistency in alcohol rules across city facilities and to discuss their grievance over the proposed beer ban at the Fire Hall. The departure follows an April incident involving volunteer Larry Chaon and a tense vote among the 43 member force. Dalton neighbors plow 366 acres for ill Melvin Warren

Dalton residents organized 27 tractors to till 366 acres for Melvin Warren who is laid up this spring. The work lasted about three hours and the workers were served lunch by the Melvins. This first tillage of the season aims to enable Warren to farm the land for the year.
