Roscoe Man Builds Steam Engine for Centennial
Roscoe resident Jack Sawyer, a 41 year old tinkerer and founder of Sawyer Manufacturing Co, built a working old fashioned steam engine as a home project during the Centennial year. He plans a coal tender and three coaches, estimating about $700 invested not counting his time. The ride use remains undetermined as he has no track yet. Sawyer, a former Union Pacific fireman, uses a propane burner and a small boiler, aiming to demonstrate historic tech and preserve forefather achievements. He hopes to someday display the train near local attractions and notes his workshop output includes steel gates and rodeo chutes.
