Deuel County Votes for Nursing Home Bond Plan
Deuel County Commissioners unanimously approved a 195000 bond issue to add to the existing Chappell hospital for a county nursing home. A special election will be held May 25 to authorize the project, reducing reliance on neighboring counties for elder care. A Chapell Development Committee survey found about twenty residents disabled or aged in Deuel County in rest homes nearby, with others seeking local care.

Rowland Hill of Potter Dies This Morning
Rowland B. Hill, 85, of Potter, died Friday morning at Memorial Hospital after a two week hospitalization. Survived by wife Ellen D., one daughter Avis Herboldsheimer, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements pending at Craig Mortuary. A letter will request emergency drought relief for Cheyenne county farmers from the State ASCS office in Lincoln as county meetings discuss relief. County agent Liljegren and officials say the drought is severe with pastures dry and feed reserves depleted. Some ranchers are selling cattle or shipping to Montana. relief could include 75 percent subsidized government feed grains for breeding stock.

During Armed Forces Week the Sioux Army Depot offers five weekday bus tours May 10 to May 14. Departures are 9 30 A.M. and 1 00 P.M. from the main entrance vis itors parking lot. Tours show actual operations in the Ammunition Area with stops at igloo magazines and loading sites. A shop used by the Sidney Occupational Training Center demonstrates repurposed surplus facilities. Parking is ample and the Hi Spot Cafeteria will serve meals. Visitors must leave matches lighters and cameras in cars. A string of minor crashes over several days caused limited damage with no serious injuries. Ronald Sibert and Elmo Wilt collided at Eleventh and Illinois. Sibert’s 1961 Chevrolet and Wilt’s 1963 Ford sustained $125 and $25 damage, Wilt cited for failure to yield. Another crash Monday near Ninth and Blinds involved Aaron Weber and John Elwell with Weber’s 1954 Chevrolet sustaining $162 damage. Tuesday on El Rancho Road, Thomas Hennig’s 1965 Plymouth backed into William Folkerts’s 1957 Ford Station Wagon. Hennig’s damage not reported.
