Corn Alcohol Fuel Not Economy Proposal Expert Says

An expert observer in the petroleum industry contends that blending corn alcohol with gasoline would not aid farmers and would raise motor fuel costs. B H Markham of the American Petroleum Industries committee estimates a $500 million annual burden, roughly doubling state gas taxes, with corn distillation raising per-bushel costs to motorists. A 10 percent blend could add about three cents per gallon, while surplus corn would cost motorists over $1 per bushel to distill.
