Haworth Hardware ends a century at 831 10th Ave Sidney after Earl Goldie Haworth sells and closes the store. The business began in 1876 as Essig & Son and changed names through Winders Hardware before Haworth’s 33 years of ownership. The unnamed buyer plans to liquidate stock and decide on future use.

April Weather Brings Major Rainfall at Sidney Airport

A total of 2.70 inches of rain fell in April at the Flight Service Station of Sidney Airport, ending a drought. The month saw the largest single day rainfall on the 16th with 2.1 inches and several other days near that total. Total for 1976 through April reached 2.90 inches, below the 3.14 inch normal for the first four months.

Telegraph marks 104th year of publication in Sidney

The Sidney Telegraph begins its 104th year of publication, dating to May 1873 when Lawrence Connell printed the first issue. Connell, an attorney and organizer, helped launch the paper first serving as an officer of Cheyenne Coditty. The Telegraph, the oldest business in Sidney, served Western Nebraska and surrounding territories.
