USDA announces a Crop land Conversion Program for 1967 in 28 states with $7.5 million in federal funds. Nebraska receives $386000 to operate in 12 counties Antelope Boone Boyd Custer Dawes Dixon Dundy Lincoln Madison Platte Sherman Webster. The plan helps family farms convert base acreage crops to conservation uses such as forests water storage wildlife habitat or recreation. Eligible farmers divert a full allotment or base crop with payments at rates similar to the Crop land Adjustment Program, reduced for grazing or diversion. County committees will offer agreements to family sized farms already in Cropland Adjustment Program but not accepted due to limited funds. Decisions rely on need to adjust farming and to prevent erosion or deterioration of farm land.
