Contour farming urged for soil conservation and prosperity
A straight line is the shortest distance between two points and a straight furrow on rolling land is the shortest line to soil destruction. Permanent farm prosperity will not be found around the corner but around the contour. Nature requires roughly 500 to 800 years to build up one inch of topsoil. If a field has lost four inches it has lost more than 2,000 years of nature's work.
