Reports from our area say horses cattle and calves have died as winter tightens its grip. The last sounding showed 22 inches of snow on the level and drifts many feet deep. Community notes praise mail carrier Algor Erickson for delivering on all three weekly trips despite harsh conditions.
Mrs. Hoffman visits and heads to Dalton to join her husband teaching. Miss Swift visits Peetz friends. Several locals travel to Sterling, North Platte, Sidney, and Colorado. many plan drills, moves, or attend conventions. Community events include a Peetz literary Society program and a St Patrick dance with refreshments.
Mrs T Thornburg and Dorothy spent Sunday at B F Thornburgs. F Wickhorst returned from North Bend after his mother’s death. A social dance at Adams ranch by Joseph Johnson was a nice affair Saturday night. Mrs Leonard hosted Lutheran Guild Friday. J Heimer has no word on his son Elgin. rumors of locating him are false. Friends welcome news of a son for Mr and Mrs Charles Heimer nee Larson born early this week.

Lawrence Mass March 14 The textile strike nears end as the strikers accept a wage rise schedule offered by William M Wood president of the American Woolen company The union says they gained virtually every concession sought since the nine week walkout The increases range from 20 percent in some mills to weekly hikes from 1 08 to 54 cents for the highest paid skilled workers.
The Chicago market closes with wheat around 1.01 for May and 98 ¼ for July, corn near 71 ½ May and 72 July, oats about 53 ¼ May and 49 ½ July, and meats trading with pork near 16.50 May. Cash prices show No 2 hard wheat at 1.05, No 3 corn at 66 ¼, and No 2 white oats at 54 ¼. Cattle receipts run 16,000 with steady beeves 5.00–5.85, western steers 5.00–6.85. hogs around 6.90–7.35. sheep weaker with natives 3.90–3.85 and yearlings 5.40–6.80. South Omaha receipts for cattle 4,800. hogs 18,760. beef steers 5.30–8.00, cows and heifers 3.85–7.00, stockers 5.00–6.75, calves 4.60–8.00. hogs 6.95–7.05, butchers 6.85–6.90. sheep 4.50–5.75.
