Burlington Northern Runs At Least Six Extra Trains Weekly

Burlington Northern Railroad is running at least six extra trains a week, according to local agent Mrs. I Kreutzer. The trains carry coal from Sheridan Wyoming to Denver Colorado and do not follow a set timetable, running at any time. Several unfamiliar with the heavier schedule have had near misses at unguarded crossings.

Trade Fair Exhibitors Reserving Booth Space

About 25 of 59 booths at the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce Trade Fair and Travel Show have been leased for May 16 to 19 at the National Guard Armory in Sidney. Exhibitors include local and regional firms, with $2,200 in $100 merchandise certificates to be awarded by hourly drawings.

Hearing on Gentleman power plant acreage continues

The environmental hearing for the Gerald Gentleman station near Sutherland moved into a second day as Sierra Club secured an analysis of the coal to be used. Nebraska Public Power District faced objections over evidentiary admissibility while an air pollution control engineer testified the equipment could remove up to 99.8 percent of particulates, though not guaranteed at all times.

Nokes Receives Two Life Terms in Dismemberment Murders

Harold Nokes 45 pleaded guilty to first degree murder of Wilma Hoyt 56 and second degree murder of Edwin Hoyt 57 in a McCook case. A Red Willow County panel sentenced him to consecutive life terms after findings of unusual pressures and personal faults. Ena Nokes 43 received five years for disposing of the bodies.
