In Cheyenne county the election on April 14 will use 17 precincts but 18 voting places. Two new names appear on the Doll books as district designations shift to meet the law. Sidney precinct 1 keeps its name with two polling sites at the court house and the Allis-Chalmers building. Sidney 2 becomes Haskell and Sidney 3 becomes Morrow.

WPA funds shift to roads in Nebraska plan

Large Logan county delegations attended a Monday highway conference at Akron and earned renewed assurance for Route 113 between Sterling and Peetz as part of the Black Hills Denver highway. Governor Johnson and State Highway Engineer Vail said Nebraska and the federal Bureau of Roads favor completing the Peetz road to standard specs and linking it with the Colorado line to Sidney as a Denver Black Hills connection. Two Dates In Mind For April Fight Card
The American Legion boxing committee considers April 14 or 20 for the next fight card headlined by Young Dixon the Chicago middleweight and Bruce Brown the Kansas City knockout artist. Maryott Denied Clemency Twice in Wisconsin Penitentiary Case
Maryott a former Oshkosh sportsman and painter failed for the second time to gain clemency from a life term. He appeared before the pardon board March 11 and the decision denying freedom was announced Tuesday. Protests including a 500 name petition blocked his release. Neighbors fear revenge if released and recall his habit of firing at people and lights when intoxicated. He was a marksman, hunter and guide. His best friend George Albee, a night marshal, came to arrest him November 24, 1926. Maryott claims Albee shot him five times and beat him before he killed Albee in self defense. He is 65 and this is his second pardon bid.

Funeral services were held from the Assembly of God church Wednesday afternoon for Alberry G. Weaver 78 who died in a local hospital Monday evening Rev Charles Thornton officiated at the service Interment was in Greenwood cemetery The Rice funeral service in charge Alberry Gyer Weaver was born in Pennsylvania March 5 1858 and passed away at Sidney March 16 78 years 11 days He lived in Pennsylvania until 21 then moved to Illinois five years and then eastern Nebraska where he married Ophia Jugel in 1892 One son Melure was born to this union The mother died in 1899 The deceased came to Cheyenne county in 1912 from Bancroft and in 1912 was married to Julia Martin who preceded him in death at Dalton in 1924 He is survived by his one son Melure one brother W M Weaver of Sioux City Ia and one sister Mrs Thompson of Warrior’s Mark Pa and seven grandchildren A nephew R H Weaver of Sioux City arrived Thursday morning to attend the funeral.
