Western Nebraska ranges are improved over last year but remain below the ten year average. Panhandle ranges stood at 7 percent of normal on March 1, up from 69 percent a month earlier and 64 percent a year ago, with the ten year average at 80.8 percent. Wyoming ranges surpassed last year and the ten year average, at 94 percent of normal on March 1, up slightly from February 1 and 22 percent above a year ago.

Rainfall across a three day period from Sunday to Tuesday totaled half an inch in Sidney with lighter moisture than Alliance and Scottsbluff. Farmers in Dalton noted six inches of soil penetration. A slow drizzle raised Trenton to one and three quarters inches, and Royal plus the Nebraska panhandle saw an inch and a half, the first since last October.

Grabill Home Fire Damages Residence on Tuesday
The Grabill residence at 905 Linden was set ablaze in the basement around 1 30 a m on Tuesday. Firefighters found a pile of papers burning and smoke filled the house causing basement damage from flames water and chemicals. Mr Grabill offered no theory on the cause.
