Harold Ruhter Dies in Train Truck Collision at Crossing
Harold Dale Ruhter 39 lifelong Sidney resident was Cheyenne County’s first traffic fatality of the year and 65th in Nebraska. He drove a pickup struck by Union Pacific No. 7 east of Sidney near Mayfair Service Station and Greenwood Cemetery. He died instantly. funeral set for Tuesday at First Christian Church. Survivors include widow Shirley and five children Jimmy Sharon Cindy Keo Susan, parents, sister and brother, and numerous relatives. Memorial Rest Home designated as memorial.

At a Brookings meeting Nebraska's Lindeken Whiteley and Dr. Staples joined SD scientists to share findings. Goals include tracking mite travel, early infection detection, and developing an effective miteicide and application method. Researchers in Western Nebraska led by Dr. Staples and Dr. Allington coordinate efforts.

The Dalton talent show drew 16 entrants Sunday in the school auditorium with a range of acts. Top junior went to Julie McRoberts and Marlene Ernest on two pianos, intermediate winner Rex Prather on accordion, senior winner Donna Allen singing. Second junior to Randy Linton with a piano solo. other juniors included Debby Smith, Barbara Ziegler, Pat Schinzel, and Wilma Peterson with Pam Martin. Intermediate second Connie Flora on flute. Mary Adam and Ann Walsh with Mary Peterson on piano duet. Sheila Schuler and Vicki Rathman on accordion date. LaJean Lessman on piano. Susan Allen on bass voice. Peggy Larson on piano. Karen Schinzel and Terry Van Anne pantomime. Senior second Dianne Berry on vocal solo. mixed quartet of Donna Allen, Betty Jean Weed, Richard Hutzenbiler, Gary Larson. Twelve Schools Competing In LPVAA Music Festival
Lodgepole hosts the LPVAA Music Festival on March 24 with 12 schools including Bushnell Dalton Dix Gur ley Harrisburg Lodgepole Lorenzo McGrew Mitchell Sunflower Potter St Patrick's Academy and Sund. A total of 177 entries will be judged by Larry Delinger Terry Boyes Harry McNees Jon Peterson and Paul Swanson. Events run 8:15 am to 4:15 pm with solo acts before noon and bands and choirs after. Four trophies will be awarded for outstanding band chorus vocal ensemble and instrumental ensemble. Lunch will be served at noon by Lodgepole Music Parents Assn.

The Trinity Lutheran Church in Dalton voted to issue a call to Norman Miller a senior at Central Seminary in Fremont to serve as pastor. Miller married with a 16 month old son will graduate this spring and has preached twice since the departure of Rev Norman. A decision from Miller on acceptance is expected soon.

1964 Dodge Station Wagon Stolen Here Last Night
An area wide alarm has been issued to recover a 1964 Dodge station wagon stolen after 11 p.m. Sunday from the driveway of John W. Elwell at 1814 Osage. Elwell found it missing at 7 a.m. and notified police and Highway Safety Patrol. The nine passenger four door car has a gold top ivory body and a luggage rack.

County Board Race Set As Filings Close
Two final day filings for county and district posts were made with Cheyenne County Clerk Ralph Englert. Muriel Crosby of Sunol filed for First District commissioner to challenge incumbent A A Fenske, appointed last December to fill Cecil Hunt’s term. Robert L. Lodgepole Lions Talent Show Yields Three District Contenders
The Lodgepole High School auditorium hosted a large audience for the Lions Talent Show. Winners from 22 entries were Gayle Sterling in junior, Pam Jessen in intermediate, and Carol Pivonka in senior divisions, who will represent Lodgepole at the District 38-N Talent Show in Dalton on April 12. Sterling performed March for flutist, Hyde placed second with At The Soda Fountain, Jessen led with Charleston Tap and Spinning Song, Pivonka won with Sleeping Time Down South, and a trumpet trio earned second with Jin Dandies. A piano duet Canadian Capers and the Lodgepole High dance band also entertained.

The Sidney Livestock Sales Pavilion sold 650 head of cattle and 150 hogs on Saturday from the Schnell farm east of Sidney. Top price 469 pound cattle at 25.10 with other Schnell sales ranging 24.45 to 21.30 per hundredweight. Bob Nelson of Redington sold 581 pound steers at 24, 740 pound heifers around 20.20, hogs around 14.10. Dave Truss said the market looked steady to strong as confidence grows after unsettled conditions. The sale was tempered when Harold Ruhter was killed in a truck train accident east of town shortly after.
