Youth Confesses Forgery of Check in Cheyenne County
A self confessed forger Harlan Scott 18 of Ordville turned himself in to Cheyenne County Sheriff W W Schulz on Thursday night reportedly admitting forging Kenneth Van Skike's name on a check. Scott offered no reason for the confession and was to be brought before County Judge Robert A Barlow for arraignment Monday. He would likely be bonded and held for district court trial authorities said.

City Council Saves Bonds Interest by Refunding Ve Bonds
City Council saved over thirty five hundred dollars in interest by refunding two hundred ten thousand dollars of revenue bonds due May nineteen fifty nine. The bonds issued May first, nineteen forty five bore two percent interest. Refunding at one and a half percent produced a gross saving of five thousand six hundred seventy dollars after one percent fee to the bond house and twenty one dollars for registering the new bonds leaving three thousand five hundred forty nine dollars net. A potential gross saving of seven thousand eight hundred seventy five dollars existed if bonds were kept to maturity. The Board of Public Works had a plan to retire them ahead of nineteen fifty nine.

Last Rural Area Getting Phones Progress on Cow Creek line to Sunol area
The Cow Creek Telephone Co is extending service to the final unconnected part of the Sidney exchange. Eighteen customers will gain lines over a 12 by 12 mile area east and south of Sunol, with completion expected by mid April. Work began Thursday with post holes, poles, and equipment arriving over the weekend. Farmers build the line under foreman supervision from the N W Bell Co which helped with organization and materials. Officers are Joe Bonkiewicz Jr president Robert J Bailey secretary treasurer and B J Barkhart vice president.

McLernon Wildcat Test Gets Started Monday
Bids totaling 33 127 were placed with the state board of educational lands for 10 year gas and oil leases on 54 448 acres of school land in seven western Nebraska counties. Sinclair Oil Co. led with 2 75 per acre on a Sioux County section and 2 per acre on another Sioux County tract. Other bids ranged from 25 cents to 1 65 per acre. Counties represented include Sioux Morrill Scotts Bluff Keith Box Butte and Dawes. The board will hear bids next Friday on lands in Chase Devel Dundy Garden Keith and Perkins.

Gillespie Rites Held At Dalton
Services were held Saturday afternoon in Broadwater for Marjorie Lavon Gillespie aged 31 who died Tuesday after a long illness at Dalton Hospital. Rites at Messiah Lutheran Church, burial in Dalton Cemetery. She was a stenographer for the PMA office at Sidney before illness. Born in Dalton, she finished Broadwater High School in 1986 then attended business college in Denver. Survived by her father Bert Gillespie of Broadwater, sister Fern Baker of Broadwater, and brother Donald E. of Los Angeles. mother died in 1923.
