Expert Tells County Agents Farm Prices Will Stay Low

Ralph Cole of the agricultural college extension service told county agents at Bridgeport the long term trend for prices is downward with the next year likely offering partial recovery but lower overall price levels. He cited declining land values since 1921, high taxes, and potential tax reform to ease the burden. He projected larger corn acreage with normal yields and low prices next fall, a favorable corn hog ratio for producers, rising beef demand amid growing cattle numbers, possible wheat price support only if a major world crop failure occurs, and anticipated pullet shortages if poultry farming declines continue, while dairy output will keep market load.
