The Senate approved the second deficiency measure on the final day of the 71st session, funding an $80,000 post office in Sidney and a $760,000 federal building in Omaha. With House approval, the bill awaits presidential action as bids and site selections proceed, and work likely starts within a year.
The February report by State Treasurer T. W. Bass shows total cash in the state treasury at 4,746,368.44, up from 4,049,874.90. Trust funds in bonds reach 14,006,953, while the general fund rose from 1,201,009 to 1,130,846. Receipts and expenditures in gas tax, motor registration, and federal road aid are detailed, with several fund balances noted.
Reel Contractors Inc of Sidney won nearly eighty thousand dollars in road construction awards from the Wyoming state highway department in Cheyenne. Joseph Reel and Thomas O Connell attended. the firm also handles existing jobs near Gillette and in Jackson Hole.

Intrepid air mail pilot Frank Yager flew an open cockpit Boeing four one five through a blinding snowstorm on the Cheyenne to North Platte route Thursday morning. Residents along Lodgepole valley watched as the plane skimmed farms and towns, sometimes feet above rooftops, maintaining schedule despite low visibility. The North Platte air mail field confirmed the landing with a short report noting Yager was eastbound over Sidney and arrived North Platte at 11:35 A.M. The daring feat highlighted resilience in the harsh winter transport season.
Sidney high school advanced to the regional quarterfinals after a 35 to 8 win over Big Springs at North Platte yesterday afternoon. The Maroons face Potter tonight at six o'clock, Potter having eliminated Paxton yesterday. Sidney is favored to reach the final and meet the lower bracket winner tomorrow night as snow and a distant smoke stack loom in the distant city scene.

Rev. W. J. Willis of Superior will be in Sidney Sunday to lead services at the Presbyterian church as a candidate. He hopes a representative group of local Presbyterians will hear him.
The Sidney high school debate team defeated Alliance last Friday. Members were Irene Miller, John Swain, Richard Scriber, and Erwin Schmale with Weymouth as coach. Alliance listed Hylda Pryor, Elizabeth Barker, Nina Neff, Marion Lee Rousey, and an alternate. The topic was should nations disarm except for police. Sidney defended the negative. Alliance the affirmative. Sidney won on overall case quality, though Alliance presented strong points.
Lodgepole high school eliminated St Patricks of Sidney from the regional tournament at North Platte in a hotly fought 11 to 10 contest. The game featured a tight score and decisive late defense by Lodgepole to advance.
Midland College A Capella Choir directed by Prof. Oscar Syders drew a large Sidney crowd at the city auditorium with a three part sacred program. Sixty four Midland College students performed pieces ranging from Hands creation to Rachmaninoff and Gretchaninoff, featuring tenor soloist Rolin W. Butts and chorus echo.
Nebraska fatalities and injuries from accidents rise over eight weeks in 1931. Between February 10 and 24, accidents caused 17 deaths and 269 injuries, with 13 permanent disabilities. Total eight week toll includes 1,116 injured and 52 disabilities, 67 deaths overall.
Womens annual Methodist church banquet postponed until March 10 due to inclement weather. Arrangements as formerly made will be preserved according to Rev Mills announcement.

Senator James W. Rodman will discuss Nebraska's future road building program on WOW radio Saturday at 6:30 p m central time. The broadcast will cover pending legislation affecting paved roads in the state. Rodman will speak each Saturday night at the same hour over WOW.
The Sidney Red Devil five routed Gurley 53 to 24 on Wednesday night led by Mitchell with 18 points and Chaney adding 16.
