Obituary: Mrs Barbara Brachtenbach Dies After Operation
Mrs Barbara Brachtenbach born in Oberfenten Canton Dickery Grand Dushe Leupemburg in 1856 came to America with her parents at age twelve. She married Adolph Brachtenbach on October 17 1879 and had eleven children, ten surviving. Survived by brothers Mike and Nick Gleasner and sister Mrs Mary Olson of Chicago, plus five grandchildren. They lived in Chicago thirty six years, then Ipswich South Dakota four years, then Cheyenne County six years. Died March fourth after a serious operation. Funeral Saturday at Catholic church amid community sympathy.

Alfred Shipman moved from Cheyenne to Grover Colorado to temporarily relieve the local operator. A freight wreck near Grand Island and a blizzard east of there delayed trains into town Friday. W M Jeffers named superintendent of the Nebraska Division of Union Pacific on February 23, succeeding W R Cahill, transferring from Wyoming. A Baldwin Works eighty six foot locomotive for Burlington is on display at the Panama Pacific Exposition in San Francisco. Weighing 280 tons it carries 17 tons of coal and 10,000 gallons of water. Its size makes firing by hand impossible so a street automatic stoker transfers coal to the firebox. The firebox resembles a large homestead shack and the boiler interior is seven feet four inches in diameter. It required thirty seven days to cross the continent.

A Washington dispatch reports that Rep M P Kinkaid won approval to study irrigation for Lodgepole Valley. The Agriculture Department's irrigation and drainage division will begin spring investigations into lifting water from a shallow shed under the valley to the land. The effort follows persistent lobbying by Judge Kinkaid and supporters R A Blake and J J McIntosh at the Platte Valley Irrigation convention.

Haiston Buys Doty Home On North Side
Ex commission J B Haiston closed a deal Thursday with F L Doty for a six room house and bath, half block of ground with trees and lawn, a barn and all needed for a comfortable home in a sightly location. The $2700 price includes possession about June 1 when Doty family moves to Buckingham Colorado. Haiston will remain in town and farm on his property fourteen miles north.
