Ward No 3 held its courthouse caucus on March 3 to nominate two aldermen. Herman Schroeder was elected Chairman and G D VanGorder secretary. H Schroeder and F W Vath led the vote. The assembly favored J L Melutosh for Mayor.
In strong Tuesday winds a prairie fire started west of the McFadden home beyond city limits. Quick citizen response helped hold the blaze, which moved dangerously and was checked with the house spared.
A caucus of the Third Ward Business Men's Party will meet in the Bordwell Building on Lincoln Way Monday March 13 at 7 30 p m to select two alderman candidates for the ward The committee calls for participation by party members and supporters in this local political process.
In Ward No 2 a rapidly signed petition names Will Riggs and J B Halston as councilman candidates, signaling organized support for the duo.

Four Colorado men Pat Bowers Abe Hesson David Kernan and B B Bayliss bootlegged whiskey and wine to Merino. Their car overturned north of Sterling after loading cargo in Sidney. They were hospitalized then jailed with injuries and contraband alcohol recovered. Police suspect the group of bootlegging in Merino and the wreck exposes broken bottles and jugs.
A prairie fire driven by high winds swept across pasture land northwest of Sidney for two days and a night, threatening J. J. Brown’s home. Neighbors fought the blaze to save property while grazing lands burned. Ed Myers rescued his car from the flames but suffered burns on hands and face while doing so.

Mrs Alva O Witters died at home in Cheyenne on Sunday March 5 1916 after a lengthy illness. Born Viola Mae Clark May 22 1885 at Strawberry Point she moved to Sidney and later married Alva O Witters on June 27 1906. Survived by husband two sons Chester eight and Clark six. her parents and several siblings. Funeral in Cheyenne First Methodist Church Tuesday with Rev E E Brace officiating. Sidney relatives attended.
Everena Olson born in Stravanger Norway on September 18 1845. She came with her husband to Seward Nebraska in 1888 where she resided until recently. She was married to SDRAM.
A citizens caucus met at the courthouse on March 2 to nominate city officers. J L McIntosh was named mayor candidate, L Neubauer for clerk, and D R Campbell for treasurer, with Gus Wellner presiding and Leon Fine as secretary. Over two hundred citizens attended.
Two early pioneers of Redington country died within a week. Potter Review reports Mrs. Lewis Willson of Lawrence Fork near Redington died Sunday February 27. Bridgeport Blade notes the death of Mrs. Mary Godd known as Aunt Mary, wife of Dick Gillman who lived near Redington for about thirty years. Mrs. Gilman married George T. Good in December. Both women were about fifty.
A large number of immigrants have been shipped into Variots in the past ten days. In a future issue, efforts will be made to obtain their names. A twenty five year period within the week is indicated for possible veto of the notice.
