Ogallala coach Marvin Boesen announces resignation from the Ogallala school system. A Hastings College graduate with an English major and minors in secondary education and physical education, he earned a master's from the University of Nebraska. Boesen previously taught and coached at Gering, Ainsworth, Atkinson and Talmage. Future plans were undisclosed.
Seventeen of twenty American League baseball writers voted Stan Bahnsen of the New York Yankees as the 1968 AL rookie of the year. Bahnsen won 17 games for the Yankees.

The southern Panhandle region of western Nebraska reports fewer farm and ranch problems this winter. Observers say light snows there left moisture in the ground, with dormant winter wheat likely spared despite deeper snows elsewhere. Normal spring moisture should boost the crop as it greens.
