Let Contracts On Lodge Pole Road
Contracts for the Lodge Pole road project were awarded in Lincoln with bids opened last Thursday. Lucke of Lodge Pole won the dirt contract at 29 cents per cable yard for 27,800 yards of dirt. Cheyenne county secured the gravel at 18 cents per square yard for 10,769 square yards on two miles. A Jastings construction was chosen for building a 24 foot span bridge at 2,090 dollars. Three Sidney men backed the county bid due to limited funds tied in warrants.

Sidney and county groups push a county wide war memorial plan. The county commission would cover about 350 dollars of the estimated 700 dollar cost for a five inch siege gun monument to be placed on the courthouse lawn with walks and a base. The gun ships from California and only freight and site work are paid.

Essay Contest For High School Pupils On Constitution
Nebraska State Bar association sponsors an essay contest for Nebraska high school students on the distinguishing features of our national government as provided by the constitution. District Judge J L Tewell chairs the Thirteenth judicial district with county chairmen including W K Hodgkin of Cheyenne county. Essays up to 2000 words, written on one side only, with student and school names substituted by numbers, must be submitted by May 1. The top essays may win medals. the winning district essay advances to state competition with prizes plus a school flag awarded.

Sidney public schools re-elect nearly entire teaching staff
The Sidney school board retained almost all teachers at its Monday meeting with few exceptions. Superintendent Liebendorfer asked re-elected staff to file acceptance or rejection by next Monday. Only one salary increase beyond automatic scale, plus Smith the music supervisor, received a raise equal to those under the schedule. Several teachers listed for next year and four janitors also re-elected at current salaries.

Sweet Revenge Sparks Sidney Rout of Mitchell on Local Court
Sidney basketball avenged a rough earlier loss by defeating Mitchell 25 to 10 in a hard fought return game. Captain Roy Chambers sat out with a foot infection. The win closed Sidney’s 1924 schedule as substitutes kept the margin firm against Mitchell’s fouling and poor sportsmanship. Coach Green emphasized fair play.

Juvenile Band Members Host Parents at Banquet
The Sidney Juvenile band hosted sixty parents at a Friday night banquet in the Methodist church basement with 141 attendees. Director B. W. Bonham presided, readings by Bobbie McDaniel and Jimmie Adams, and addresses by local officials were given. In Cheyenne County western Nebraska cattle feeders rewrite the old rulebook as corn and forage grow, enabling Bert Steele to fatten 345 steers and back 400 hogs. His Sidney area farm features windbreaks, cafeteria style feed, and 500 plus acres of corn, with 245 steers shipped to Omaha recently and 100 remaining on his yard.

Conrad Stikker 77 a Cheyenne county pioneer died at his home eight miles east of Dalton last Saturday February 29. Funeral services were held at his home Monday at 1 30 pm and at the church at 2 30 pm Burial was in Dalton cemetery Mrs Stikker had died several months earlier He was a native of Hanover Germany a veteran of the 1871 war He immigrated to Gothenburg in 1884 and moved to Cheyenne county in 1887 thirty seven years ago
