Feed Grain Signup Deadline Nears for 1967 Program
Friday, March 17, is the last day growers may file applications for the 1967 feed grain program. ASC vice-chair Lester B. Runge notes only participants are eligible for price support on 1967 corn and grain sorghums, with loans purchases and payments in play. Signups allow up to 50 percent of a farm’s feed grain base to earn price support by planting corn, grain sorghums, or soybeans. National loan rates are $1.05 per bushel for corn and $1.61 per cwt for grain sorghum. An advance payment of half the estimated price support can be requested at signup. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Applications accepted weekdays. by Feb 23, 306 farms had signed up for about 2,290 acres with the necessary 20 percent diversion plus additional acreage for payments.

Trail Race Seeks Riders for 350 Mile Six Day Event
A six day 350 mile horse race from Deadwood South Dakota to Sidney Nebraska is being organized by a committee led by Merle Bobo of Sidney as part of Nebraska Centennial events. Entrants must provide two horses and use them throughout the race with mid race changes. Deadline for entries is July 15 and prizes await finishers.

Senators Plan Tour of Western Nebraska Vocational School
Four members of the Legislature budget committee will visit Western Nebraska Vocational Technical School Saturday afternoon. Senators George Gerdes Stanley Matzke Fern Orme and William H Hase brook will tour the Chadron area as part of a western Nebraska air trip. The committee will hold an initial hearing Wednesday on a $600 000 biennial budget request from the State Department of Education, but no final action is expected. Senator George Fleming, not on the budget committee this term, says he was informed of the plans but does not plan to join.

Calves sold in small lots at the Sidney Sales Pavilion on Saturday with top prices up to 29.80 per hundred for 400 lb steer calves. Yearling steers 550-650 lb brought 23 to 25, yearling heifers around 21 to 23.40, odd lot heifers 24 to 26, cann ers 13.50 to 15.70, light cows 17.25 to 19.60, bred cows 175 to 180 per head, baby calves 45 to 50. Hogs in the 200-260 lb range 17.75 to 18.20 per hundred, sows 14.70 to 15.
