Goodyear Opening Scheduled in Sidney

Several hundred dollars in prizes to be awarded during the grand opening of Sidney's new Goodyear Service Store at 12th Avenue and Hickory Street. The week long event March 8 to March 13 includes 30 prizes and door prizes with seven p.m. drawings Saturday. The store offers Goodyear tires tubes batteries and GE major appliances with large in stock and a public parking lot adjacent. Management includes Sherman as manager and Wilson as credit manager with Erlewine as service manager and Skrdlant as appliance salesman.

United Fund Checks Ready at Sid ney Sioux Army Depot

The United Fund annual meeting for Sid ney and Sioux Army Depot is set for 7 30 p m Wednesday at Fort Sidney Motor Hotel. Benny Hochman will preside and present checks to participating organizations. Officers will be elected and plans for the coming year discussed. The 1964 campaign aimed at 17125 but fell short by about 4000 with 13500 raised through chairman and volunteers in a last minute rally.

Feed Grain Sign-Ups End March 26 in Cheyenne County

Cheyenne County farmers flock to the ASCS signup as of Thursday 306 farms have enrolled for the 1965 feed grain program with 1 130 eligible farms total and 8 351 acres diverted across corn grain sorghum and barley. The program offers diversion payments price supports and loans for 1965 production with a 20 percent minimum diversion and possible crop substitutions upon signup.

Grain Reseal Program Set in Cheyenne County

Details of the federal grain reseal initiative reach the Cheyenne County ASC office. Programs authorize reseal for corn, wheat, grain sorghum, barley, and oats across multiple crop years with 1964 crop loans eligible for reseal or conversion. Extended reseal terms for earlier crops end by March 31, 1965. Rates to be announced later.

The mayor of Sidney Dr C B Dorwart signed two proclamations for Girl Scout Week March 7 13 and National Business Women’s Week March 7 13. The events include an open house in the Elks Auditorium and a display by Girl Scouts and Brownies. In Lodgepole another mayor signed a Girl Scout Week proclamation.

Miss Larabee to Present Show Trophies at Red and Custom Show

Sherry Larabee will present trophies at the 6th annual Red and Custom Show at the National Guard Armory this weekend. The event features custom and model cars, rod displays from a four state area, a hot rod film, and thousands of dollars in automotive equipment. Public admission is $1 for adults and 50 cents for children under twelve.

The Business Institute of Sidney adds incentive for entrants to the Miss Fort Sidney Days contest by offering a $1000 scholarship to the winner. The award may be used at any of the three schools Kansas City St. Louis and another location.

Private Industry Shows Interest In Retraining Students

The Nebraska Employment Service office in Sidney reports inquiries from national employers about students at the Sidney Occupational Training School at Sioux Army Depot. Some students have already found work while others will complete courses of sixteen to forty eight weeks. One student has taken part time employment and will continue the course. The office and other Nebraskan agencies act as clearing houses for admissions to the school, cooperating with man power retraining officials and the administrator. Encouraging signs include full time maintenance jobs for some graduates and clerical and food handling placements as they become available.

Scottsbluff and Gering Face Class A Final Tonight

The Scottsbluff Bearcats meet the Gering Bulldogs at eight in the Sidney junior high auditorium for the Class A tourney title and a state bid. Scottsbluff arrives favored after a 72 68 semifinal win over Sidney as the Maroons fought hard to end the Bearcats season.

Hotel pool plans get OK at Ft. Sidney Motor Hotel

The Ft. Sidney Motor Hotel seeks approval for a spring construction of a new swimming pool in the inner court area. L. H. Russell, hotel operator, proposes to repurpose the current parking area, with financing steps to follow soon so the pool opens by early June amid rising tourist traffic. The parent corporation backs the project while continuing mortgage reductions.

Oil Gas Leases Sold By State in Sheridan and Sioux

The State of Nebraska sold oil and gas leases on eight tracts totaling 5120 acres in Sheridan and Sioux counties. Total bonus offered was $2560, averaging fifty cents per acre. Sam G. Harrison of De Kalb Agricultural Assn and Charles F. Coffee were the successful bidders. There is no production in these areas.
