In Hardeman and surrounding counties the No Man's Land frontier is challenged by U S Marshal George A Knight appointing Bill McDonald and deputy Lon Burson to reclaim the lawless region. They raid gang camps across Beaver Creek and Higgins, capture horse thieves, and escort prisoners to Dallas, forcing outlaws to flee to New Mexico, Arizona, and the Cherokee Strip. The successful crusade ends with a push into No Man's Land before year’s end and prompts outlaws to scatter to remote fronts.
