Big Gold Robbery Anniversary Recalled In Sidney
A long memory of the 1920s gold heist returns as witnesses recount the basement loading, hideouts, and the sheriff’s alleged complicity. Scott Davis claimed the loot totaled about 10000 dollars and named the Sidney sheriff as a conspirator later ousted by vigilantes. Robert Oberfelder, then 84, still recalls telegrams that broadcast the robbery nationwide from Omaha.
