Mrs Kurth Dies at Sidney After Illness

Mrs Fred Kurth formerly Augusta Hollatz died in Sidney on Monday evening February 26 at fifty four. Born in Germany she came to Illinois at age two with her parents and later moved to Cheyenne county. Survived by husband and eight children, three brothers and three sisters. Funeral Thursday at Lutheran church. burial in village cemetery.

Railroad notes describe new hires and a fatal accident

J F Clabaugh visited the city and Fred Borges and George Davis plus John Borgquist joined the Union Pacific car department. The Pacific hotel under A M Dunham is praised. Snow and storms delay trains between Cheyenne and North Platte, with a head end collision reported on No 18 near Julesburg. A Union Pacific brake man, William Gaunt of North Platte, was killed near Julesburg after being struck by a car. His wife and child mourn his loss.

School Notes Reflect Absences and Local Game Plans

The fifth grade reports several absences including Alice Cady Earl Gates and Alfred Shipman. Harry Runge and Wallace Kelly are absent or missed. Kelly travels to Pine Bluff. Mrs Shoemaker and Mr Shires visited grades. Debra and Hazel Shaffer reenter Miss Hiett's room. A basketball game between Sterling and Sidney high schools is set for March 10 at the Tobin Opera House with a 25 cent admission to defray expenses.
