Potter youth to speech contest in Washington
Potter High School junior Tom Herboldsheimer will travel from Sidney on March 4 to the National Voice of Democracy Speech Contest in Washington, D C. Sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, he won the Nebraska state contest on February 5 in Norfolk among 1349 entrants. The national winner will be announced Sunday night and speak at a Tuesday banquet with top finalists. His topic is What America Means to Me based on a summer bus trip and a German conversation about the Berlin Wall. Scholarships range from 1500 to 10000 dollars. Mary Louise Knapp of Kimball also won the Nebraska State High School Oratorical Contest and will compete in Casper, Wyoming, on April 14.

City to Remove Meters to Meet Safety Regulations
The Sidney City Council voted to remove 31 parking meters to comply with state and federal sight distance rules near intersections, with 59 spaces to be lost overall.
