At a recent village meeting trustees agreed to submit a water works proposal to a special election after the April village election. A Des Moines firm recommends a open well source and steam pumping plant with a total plant cost around $8,500 and a pump building about 24 by 20 feet.
A detailed proposal from Des Moines Bridge & Iron Co outlines a reservoir based water works for a town on a hill near Main street. It recommends a 100 000 gallon elevated reservoir with 100 foot head, feeds two fire streams, and maps mains and hydrants. Total estimated cost about 15 500 dollars with options for 17 000 dollar bond issuance and adjustments to mains to fit funds.
The Modern Woodmen of America will hold a special meeting next Friday night to confer the degrees upon three candidates. The entertainment committee of the Modern Woodmen and Royal Neighbors of America is arranging a joint event with details to be announced. The Degree of Honor women and Ancient Order United Workmen plan an April 11 entertainment at the Workmen Temple.
The United States Supreme Court upheld the valuation by the State Board of Equalization in the Union Pacific and Burlington Railroad tax dispute, ruling against the railroads.
