The Nebraska legislature resumes after Washington's Birthday with hundreds of house bills and near as many in the senate. A key investigation targets bondsmen of J H Admister, oil inspector, and a push to strip governor appointments faces partisan pushback. Other measures include branding penitentiary goods and a rural school levy of thirty-five mills for districts under five thousand dollars assessed value. Washington's birthday programs and local school notes fill the rest.
A lively social week prior to Lent featured a Tuesday party hosted by Mr. and Mrs. McLernon in honor of guest Daniel Cary of Omaha. The younger set played progressive high five with five tables and thirteen games, awarding first prizes to Frances McEvoy and Daniel McAleese and consolation prizes to DeBold and Henry Doran. Refreshments followed as guests departed, with the hosts praised for entertaining. Attendees included DeBold, Katie McKee, M Doran, Katie Betten dorf, Mamie McFadden, Mamie Tobin, Anna McFadden, Kate Joyce, Frances McEvoy, Mrs. Stevenson, and Messrs. Dave Gutfreund, Henry Doran, Pierre Sanders, Fred Dawson, Daniel McAleese, James McIntosh, Daniel McKee, Daniel Cary, and John McIntosh.
Mr. McIntosh hosted a social afternoon inviting his lady friends but Mrs. McIntosh countered by inviting her gentlemen friends. Unexpected arrivals led to a card party after a gossiping bee, followed by a formal repast. Guests included Mesdames Dawson Peterson Gorham Phillips Stevenson Modeland Urbach Callahan and Messrs Dawson Peterson Gorham Urbach Callahan.
A Saturday night gathering at Mrs. Jobo Daugherty's home featured pleasant conversation and a spring luncheon at eleven. Prizes were awarded in games with Ll o'dock pronouncing first prize to Daugherty and Barnhart while Miss Daugherty and Mr W Chowar took the fools prize.
