Wheat cutting may begin within a week to 10 days as southern Panhandle fields show mixed prospects. Poorer land could yield little beyond cost of harvesting while later varieties and non fertilized fields may deliver higher bushels per acre, with prices around 3.10 to 3.15 per bushel.

Sidney Fourth of July display seeks $700 to finish
Organizers say $700 is still needed to fund this year’s 90 minute aerial fireworks show. More than 300 pieces valued at $3,000 are on hand for Sundays event at Verde Lane Dam in south Sidney. The Magic Globe Players from Bismarck will bring a free Bicentennial themed show to Sidney at Legion Park this Saturday at 4 am. They will involve audience participation and use varied dramatic techniques in a program about American history. The Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce Mrs Jaycees and Sidney Lions Club sponsor. Cable Buried to Improve Toll Link Between Sidney and Bridgeport
Northwestern Bell plans to bury the telephone toll cable from Bridgeport to Sidney. Don Schroeder says the final underground line will enhance toll facilities and protect against storms, vandals, and accidents. Filsinger Excavating Co. of Sidney handles the project begun in Bridgeport and nearing Dalton this spring, with completion targeted for summer. The 8 by 8 foot concrete structures will house signal amplifying coils, spaced about every five miles.
