Pesky Flies Are Summer Nuisance
The Nebraska Health Department warns flies breed in moist organic material and elimination of such breeding sites stops the life cycle. Flies carry diseases like bacillary dysentery cholera typhoid fever and other illnesses. Houseflies breed on filth and food and their hairy bodies aid germ transfer. Eggs hatch into larvae then pupae.

Fly life cycle and control measures in sanitation
The pupae become adult flies and the cycle repeats. A female housefly lives about two months and lays around 500 eggs after emerging. With favorable weather offspring reach adults in 10 days. One pair can produce many offspring. good sanitation, screening, and proper garbage disposal are key to fly control. Eliminate open garbage cans, compost heaps, and accumulated trash to reduce the population.
