Draft Office Is Cutting Hours
The Cheyenne County selective service office will operate Mondays and Thursdays from 9 to 12 and 1 to 4, chairman Paul L. Martin reported. Edith Grieve remains clerk in charge as hours are cut due to reduced work and new selective service regulations. Congress approved a draft bill through March 31, 1947, banning conscription of 18-year-olds while allowing 19 to 44 year olds and requiring 18-year-old registration. A pay raise bill was also approved, with new rates for enlisted and noncommissioned ranks, and ceiling forces set at 1,070,000 Army, 558,000 Navy, and 108,000 Marine by July 1, 1947.
