Centennial Mother and Father Named for Cheyenne County
Florence Nelson of Potter and Elmer Seyfang of Potter chosen as Cheyenne County Centennial mother and father after a Saturday night dance festival by Prairie Schooners. Nelson, 81, has lived in the county 78 years and served as Sexton post office postmistress 1908 1912, with 18 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. Seyfang, 71, has run the Seyfang store for almost 50 years and is a WWI veteran. he has served as tax assessor and belonged to Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, American Legion. Five judges selected them. Ed Cole of Sidney Chamber of Commerce presented the honors amid square dancing.

Jerry Oliverius aged 38 of Sunol area died this morning from a self inflicted gunshot wound at his home on a farm with his father. Commissioners OK Road To Egging Plant
The Cheyenne County Board of Commissioners approved paving 4 1/2 miles to The Egging Co. plant southeast of Gurley using asphalt hot mix at an estimated $60 000. Clinton Schaff will draft specs with bids due August 15 and work starting about September 1. Ted Egging said the project is firm and will boost plant employment as weather improves.

Hailstorm Eats Crops Across Kimball County and Surrounding Areas
A severe storm swept north of Kimball, Dix and Potter causing up to 100 percent crop damage in parts of Kimball County. Gardens, homes, and shops suffered hail damage while reports from Potter and nearby towns described golf ball to marble sized hail and 1.30 inches of precipitation. Weather notes include multiple hail events in Sidney with 1.09 inches of moisture recorded.
