Summer Driver Education Program Underway in Sidney
About 150 students from Sidney High and St. Patrick's Academy participate in the second year of a cooperative summer driver education program. The group includes 25 sophomores from last year completing driving, 25 from St. Pat's receiving 30 classroom hours plus six hours driving, and 100 Sidney High sophomores scheduled for 34 hours of driving this summer with more to come in the next school year. Instructors Carl Crouse and Bob Cook are pictured with five student drivers and cars from Maddox Motors and Gibson Ford, offering both automatic and manual transmission experiences.

Seat Belt Saves Chappell Driver From Steel Rail
Christopher N. Ray, 19, of Chappell narrowly escaped serious injury when his car rammed a steel bridge railing near Lodgepole after likely falling asleep. The front of the car was pierced by the railing, a total loss of the car and 30 feet of steel rail occurred, and Ray was treated at Chappell Hospital overnight.

Bridgeport Golf Club Head Dies in Denver Crash
Bridgeport Bridgeport Golf Club manager Carl R. Christensen 59 died in Denver Sunday night from injuries from a car crash June 6 near Alliance. A retired Nebraska rancher living in western Nebraska since 1919, Christensen was en route with two other Bridgeport men to a Gordon golf tournament when injured. He was taken to Denver Hospital. funeral services were held with burial at Sunset Memorial Park in Scotts Bluff.

The House passed a bill to allow government payments to feed grains, wheat and cotton farmers who cannot plant due to floods and other natural disasters. The roll call was 295 to 2 and now moves to the Senate.
