Arrival Of Bishop Adds To History Of Frontier Town

The Rt Rev Howard R Brinker Bishop of the Nebraska Diocese flew into Sidney to conduct services and preside at confirmation at Christ Episcopal Church on Sunday morning. His visit echoes the frontier era when Bishop George Allen Beecher rode the plains by horse and buggy. Traveler bishops now reach Sidney by Frontier Air Lines from Omaha in three to four hours, a far cry from earlier weeks covering the same distance. The current pastor The Rev Charles Fred Parks was baptized and confirmed in this church.

Bull Escapes Rodeo Grounds and Spurs West Sidney Stir

A jet black Brahma bull escaped the fairgrounds late Saturday afternoon and fled into the west Sidney residential area. The 195y Fort Sidney Days drew 10 000 spectators for the parade and events. Gering cowboy Jim Krausman won 259 80 in rodeo prize money and all around cowboy title. Clarence Fannings Mitchell shot 97 11 par for 27 holes to win the Amateur Golf championship. The Beta Sigma Phi sorority won the sweepstakes prize of 50 with Calling Dr Killdare. Two Injuries Reported At Forsythe and Dowis Carnival

At Fort Sidney Days carnival in Sidney two youths were injured Friday morning. Susan Morris 10 was thrown from the Octopus ride when a door opened and received bumps and bruises. Merle Swanson 14 was punctured by a nail on a chained dog ride and treated for the wound and shock with possible surgery.
