Cheyenne county reports above average crop conditions for 1930 with ample May moisture, strong winter grain acreage, and a bright corn outlook. Wheat damage is limited, barley and oats hold steady, and diversified farming gains pace as hogs and cattle ventures grow alongside herd expansion expectations.
A regional crop report notes poor wheat prospects across Nebraska and Kansas with 95 percent winter wheat condition in the Alliance Burling ton district and high plowing due to thin yields in Dodge City three-county area. Moisture shortages threaten national supply while corn prospects in the belt show improvement though delayed by weather.
Mrs Ed Ahrens entertained the members of Mrs John Armstrong's Larkin club at her residence Tuesday night. Bridge provided the diversion with three tables in play as Mrs N E Witters won the high score trophies and Mrs Armstrong took the second prize. Guests included Mrs Fred Griffith Mrs Carl Jones and Mrs Rose Morogan.

Nebraska bankers in their report to state and federal statistics peg winter wheat at 89 percent of normal with an estimated yield of 19.6 bushels per acre. Progress of corn is down due to heavy spring rains and cool nights, leaving the state with slower planting and a lower corn stand at 82.2 percent.
On Sunday June 22 St Patrick’s parish hosts a Corpus Christi procession and confers second and third degrees on Sidney council Knights of Columbus. Mass at 8 pm with holy communion for all, then a public procession with a four Benedictions and a guard of honor. About 400 K of C members to receive degrees at 1 30 pm followed by a banquet.
Leading pitchers Jobman of Dalton and Bales of Bunker Hill meet Sunday on the Bunker Hill diamond in a feature clash. The Dalton club, in third, eyes a tilt with Baker Hill as champion as Potter holds second place. Sidney, Lodge Pole, and Star also figure in the standings with upcoming games Sunday shaping the race.
Miss Edith Boucher and Joseph Marsh were married at Castle Rock Colorado on Monday morning June 16 at 1 oclock. Rev Flynn of the Methodist church performed the ceremony at the parsonage. Miss Boucher formerly of Miles City Montana has lived in Sidney the past year and worked as a stenographer for Radcliffe and Wehmiller. Mr Marsh worked with John Deere Plow and had lived in Omaha before moving to Sidney. The couple are popular and have taken an apartment at the Omar Court.
The June 26 trade day in Sidney will draw over 2000 visitors as Sid ney merchants offer a special event in-store. The chamber of commerce backs free attractions to lure shoppers. The Telegraph News will reach about 2500 subscribers with ads. Merchants urged to plan messages before the paper calls.
The wedding of Loneta Lucile Bell and Julius W Cochran took place at the Bell home in Grant. Rev J W Bandy officiated before a small gathering of relatives and close friends. The bride wore ivory satin with a long veil, and a bouquet of Ophelia roses and lilies of the valley. Out-of-town guests included Mrs Anna R Cochran and Miss Rachel Cochran, plus Sheldon Hallett and Paul Griffith among others.
Ronald Barker son of Mr and Mrs P W Barker of Sidney and Mary Pilger of Stanton married last Monday at the bride’s home. They left for a Colorado honeymoon. The bride taught in Sidney public schools for two years and is active socially. Mr Barker has lived in Ogalalla since June 1 where he manages a Barker cleaners branch. They will reside in Ogalalla.
The Nebraska Stockgrowers Association selected Alliance as the site for its 1931 convention. More than 500 stockgrowers are expected to attend the three day event in Alliance in June, with Chadron hosting this year’s meeting. Officers were re elected, including Robert Graham of Alliance as president. The choice follows Alliance’s bid presented by Walter Hager and Ed Bishop.
Sidney prepares for the All Nebraska Goodwill Flight on June 26 with a full chamber of commerce effort. The event marks Sidney as the first host for the tour and includes a luncheon, free field admission, and no-charge policing and parking. The team anticipates thousands of visitors if weather cooperates.
The Department of Labor reports May demand for unskilled labor rose with better need for skilled workers. Office help remained plentiful while railroad hiring held steady and meat packing saw slight declines. General farm labor stayed brisk through April with adequate supply as outdoor projects drew unskilled workers.
The second all Nebraska air tour will land June 26 as part of a 1400 mile circuit from Lincoln to Omaha. About 30 planes are enrolled, mostly Nebraska ships, with out of state craft expected to raise totals to 40 or 45. Lieut. Eugene H. Beebe of Fort Riley will serve as flight commander. The Aeronca, a tiny powered glider, is entered alongside Curtis-Wright, Moth and Mono Aircraft planes, with rapid aviation participation and several Wacos in the lineup.
Sidney ranks fourth in population among western Nebraska panhandle towns in the 15th census. Scottsbluff leads with 8474 people, Alliance 6669, Chadron 4606, while Sidney records 3307, followed by Gering 2528 Mitchell 2055 Gordon 1958 and Kimball, per the list of towns over 1000.
A 6000 attendance religious pageant at Chimney Rock June 26 27 led by Rev Louis H Kaub using 80 actors and 75 voices with Bayard federated churches providing stage and lighting. A Boy Scout caravan journey from Sidney to Independence Rock Wyoming is planned July 1 with stops at Fort Kearney Ash Hollow Chimney Rock and Scottsbluff among others.
