Dalton Girls Win Titles In Junior Olympics
Two Dalton athletes shone at the Nebraska Junior Olympics in Omaha. Susan Hiner won three golds in the senior division including the 440 and 50 yard low hurdles and high jump, while Cindy Cruise claimed the intermediate 100 yard dash. Harry Bartling set a national Junior Olympics record in the 440 with a 50.3. Chadron’s Bob Wahlstrom won the senior boys 440 in 7 50.2. Both Dalton athletes eye regional action in Des Moines and a possible trip to Knoxville.

Midgets Sweep Chadron 10-7 in Sunday Night Legion Park Win
Sidney Midgets overcome 6-5 deficit after four innings to beat Chadron Midgets 10-7 at Legion Park. Tom Schilreff sparked the offense with a go ahead two bagger in the fourth, Solano earned the win in relief, Chadron pitcher Dan Liitéras pitched well despite six hits, and Lee Bauman led Chadron with three singles. Yantzie left fielder was injured on a collision and treated at Memorial Hospital before being released.

Reservoir Nearing Completion at Marion Kansas
The Marion Reservoir on the Cottonwood River is beginning to fill as the $13.6 million project nears full completion. At normal pool, it will cover over 6,000 acres with a 60 mile shoreline and store more than 60 000 acre feet of floodwater. Officials say the project is 90 percent done and dedication ceremonies are planned later this year.

Fort Sidney Juniors Handle Chadron In Sunday Tilt
Fort Sidney Juniors defeated Chadron 15 to 4 Sunday night at Legion Park. The game ended after four and a half innings under the ten run rule with Sidney rolling early offense and Herbert earning the win while Grant took the loss. Sidney piled up runs in the first three frames led by O Connell and Ladine while Chadron stranded runners and managed four hits.

Juniors Top Cheyenne 6 1 In Nine Inning Win
The Fort Sidney Juniors improved to three and two by defeating the Cheyenne Babe Ruth Seniors 6-1 at Legion Park Sidney led 1 0 before a big sixth inning scoring Monty Bobo and Jim Slama. John O Connell stole home to start the three run rally. Charlie Solano pitched all nine for Sidney allowing three hits with 13 strikeouts and five walks. Dennis Belk took the loss for Cheyenne lasting into the sixth inning with Bob Gahn relief forces.

The Fort Sidney American Legion Midgets host Scottsbluff Midgets at 5 30 PM while the Juniors meet Scottsbluff Juniors at 8 PM in the first night of action. Scottsbluff beat Sidney in the Fort Sidney tournament final and both groups travel to Alliance on Wednesday.
