Village Trustees Adopt New Water Meter Regulations
The Stoney village board met June 2 1911 with E W Ziebert as chairman and approved bills for the general road and water funds. Ordinance 115 changes water rates to a meter system starting July 1 with 50 cents per month for 2 000 gallons, 12 cents per thousand gallons up to 12 000 and 10 cents beyond that, and Chestnut street to be graded.

No Celebration Planned By Sidney Commercial Club
At a special meeting Tuesday evening the Commercial Club decided not to hold a Sidney Fourth of July celebration this year. With Lodgepole and Dalton announcing observances, the club urged residents to attend sister towns’ celebrations. The by-laws required officers to be elected. W. J. Shoemaker became President, H. T. Doran Vice-President, George B. Robinson Secretary, and Lloyd Mann Treasurer.

Board of Inquiry Reports Cause of Birdwood Engine Explosion
A Board of Inquiry met at North Platte on June 3rd to investigate the June 2nd explosion near Birdwood. It finds Engineer Kelly let water fall below the crown sheet, overheating the crown and side sheets until they failed, causing the deaths of Engineer Silas W. Kelly Fire Ralph W. Smith Head Brakeman Theodore Thompson and an unknown trespasser riding between cars.

An insane woman taken to Davenport Iowa last Monday by nurse Mrs Wilson escaped from the asylum where she had been a former inmate. Police were called to recover her and she was returned to the Davenport facility.

Livery Barn Owner Injured in Horse Accident
B F Mitchell, owner of the livery barn, was seriously injured last Friday June 2 when entangled rope twisted and he fell from his horse, fracturing his skull. He was taken to the hospital and, though very ill, a slight improvement by Wednesday. His sister from Grand Island is at his bedside helping the nurses.

The Ancient Order of United Workmen and the Degree of Honor held a hall gathering Thursday evening to honor J. R. Williams a charter member aged seventy. His two sons presented a gold watch to him as guests cheered and a fine ice cream cake and punch were served to a large crowd.

Postoffice Robbery in Winston Colorado
Friday night June 2 robbers entered the Winston postoffice and stole fifteen dollars and clothing. They cut a door to gain entry, causing a cut in a shopper, leaving blood traces through the store. The thieves borrowed a Peetz hand car, abandoned it at Lorenzo, and fled cross country. Logan County sheriff used bloodhounds but could not follow the scent.
