Queen Contest Draws 780 Votes In Coronation Night

Memorial Day Weekend Sees No Serious Accidents
Cheyenne County escapes major harm as Nebraska Highway Safety Patrol reports several minor crashes over the Memorial Day weekend. A 1946 Chevrolet truck driven by Wendell Johnson, 17, Potter, collided with a 1948 White furniture van causing $500 in damage. no injuries. A 1940 Plymouth sedan driven by Charles W. McNeal, 25, Salida, Colo., rolled several times east of Lodgepole. minor injuries and intoxication charges followed. Another single-vehicle crash near Sidney involved a 1942 International pickup driven by Robert J. Wade, 20, Casper, Wyo., who slept at the wheel. $250 damages. Wade treated for minor injuries.

Carl Lovell of the SCS led a tree planting program across 65 farms with 50 using the district planting machine and 15 farmed by the owners. A new policy will have trees ordered through the conservation district starting this year with orders accepted until September for 1954 plantings and 1955 thereafter. The policy aims to prevent surpluses and improve soil prep, with trees priced around six cents each including services.

Diversion ditches were added on Ernest Wickard’s land west of Lodgepole to reroute runoff into pasture and protect cropland. Graveside rites for Bayliff infant held in Grand Island
Graveside rites were conducted Thursday for Michael Lee Bayliff infant son of Mr and Mrs Frank Bayliff Jr who died shortly after his birth on May 26 at a Grand Island Hospital. The Bayliffs were returning to Sidney from a trip when the baby was born. Services were at Greenwood Cemetery under The Gehrig Funeral Home. Survivors include the baby's parents and two brothers Francis and Walter.
