About 360 Panhandle youths competed Saturday as Cheyenne County runners qualified for the state Junior Olympics at Omaha Burke High School June 13. Standouts included Rod Rehmer Sidney in the bantam 100 yard dash and broad jump, Mark Foster Gurley in the junior shot put, and Gina Lyn Wiekhorst Potter in junior girls shot put and high jump.

Go cart races form part of Cheyenne County centennial events with about 14 out of town entries from Omaha Lincoln Grand Island and Sidney. Races are set for Sunday June 7 at 2 p.m. at an unsettled site with trophies totaling about 250 dollars. Protective clothing is required and likely no entrants under 12 years old.
