Sidney utilities report shows strong year end profits
The Sidney Public Utilities electric and water departments posted nearly 60 000 dollars in net revenue for the year ending April 30. The electric department net available for debt service was 88 817.78 after depreciation and interest allocations. the steam department ran a deficit of 3 173.53. Combined assets exceed 1.1 million dollars, and bond debt has been reduced by 205 thousand since plant takeover from Consumers Public Power District. A full auditor's report is on file with Utility Manager Verne Livingston.

Two Persons Fined After Assault Trial
Agnes Trebough and Babry Clark were each fined 25 dollars and costs by County Judge Robert A. Barlow after a hotly contested assault and battery hearing. Mrs Mildred Rose, a third defendant, was freed. County Attorney Lawrence M. Clinton accused the trio of attacking Trebough in his north side home with a hammer handle, leaving visible injuries.

Smoke Sets Apartment Blaze. Roast Survives In Oven
Firefighters were called Sunday noon to Mrs. Hazel Johnson’s apartment at 817 Tenth Avenue after a smoking oil stove caused extensive interior smoke damage. The resident was away at church, the alarm was sounded by a passerby, and the Sidney Federal Savings and Loan Association occupies the building’s lower floor. The roast in the oven remained in good condition.

Sig Goodfriend Dies Pioneer of Sidney
Sig Goodfriend 83 one of Sidney early settlers died about three months ago in Anaconda Montana. He left Sidney in 1895 and had lived in Montana since then. He is survived by his widow and two nieces. Many old timers in the community will remember the Goodfriends.

Pete Nelson of Potter Is Dead
Pete Nelson of Potter 80 a pioneer settler died early Monday after an emergency hernia operation. Born in Sweden January 14 1867 he came to America at fifteen and settled in Cheyenne County in 1885. He served as Sextorp post master 1898 to 1907 and was survived by his widow Florence and children Lloyd Shaw Arlo Fisher Billie Smith Roy and Robert. Funeral services expected at Potter Methodist Church Wednesday at 2 o'clock.

Stone Bound Over For District Hearing
F. M. Max Stone was found guilty of uttering a forged instrument and larceny as bailee at a preliminary hearing before County Judge Robert A. Barlow and bound over to district court on a $1000 bond. He pleaded not guilty, accused of selling Frank Schwasnick’s wheat and misusing the funds, and forging a document to show tires purchased for Schwasnick’s truck. The next district court term starts in December.

Bond Faces Spencer in New Assault Charge
Louie Spencer, jailed on an assault charge, faced additional accusations of assault with intent to commit sodomy filed last week by County Attorney Lawrence M Clinton. Spencer pleaded not guilty before County Judge Robert A Barlow and was bound over to district court on a five thousand dollar bond he could not meet. The alleged victim, Bill S Johnson, a lightly built jail inmate sentenced to two years for forgery, said Spencer attacked him and threatened to strike with a milk bottle before officers intervened. Spencer had been linked to a prior alleged attack on a Sidney woman and an earlier arrest at the Sioux Ordnance Depot, with Sheriff W W Schulz noting a long 30-year crime record including sex-related incidents.

Leg Crushed Under Train In Union Pacific Yards
A fifty one year old transient harvester from Lexington Kentucky Cecil McCormick fell beneath a freight train in Union Pacific yards early Sunday. His right leg was mangled and amputated between ankle and knee after being run over by two or three cars. Found shocked and unable to tell what happened he is in Roche Hospital in satisfactory condition after emergency surgery.

Trouble Develops At Banner County Well
A court order restrains Rey F Powers from removing equipment at Lovercheck No 1 oil test well near Harrisburg. Powers allegedly attempted to abandon the well without fulfilling his contract obligations as Kimball Oil Syndicate reports. About 50 financial backers from Kimball and Banner counties attended a meeting at the Kimball county courthouse. Powers was not present.
