Combiners Reap Golden Wheat After Ideal Harvest Weekend
The Panhandle area reports a sudden weather shift bringing clear skies and low humidity, allowing long hours of cutting. Elevators struggled with boxcar shortages as 75 to 95 percent of the wheat harvest progressed across Chapell Lodgepole Colton and nearby areas, with yields around 30 to 40 base bushels per acre and some fields reaching 55. Storage capacity expanded, prices ranged from 1.00 to 1.05 per bushel, and many farmers sold now rather than store awaiting higher prices.
