Rain Delays Harvest Across Cheyenne County Wheatfields
Scattered Thursday showers stalled Cheyenne County wheat cutting with some areas two faced by heavy rain delaying work until Saturday. Elevators report yields around 35 to 40 bushels per acre countywide, Lodgepole records 20 to beyond 50 bushels with test weights near 60 pounds. Protein runs 8 to 11 percent, averaging about 10.1, and moisture requests prompt farmers to wait for moisture, as Dalton and other areas log two-thirds completion before the delay.

Ten Nebraska counties seek court ruling on vo tech financing
Ten Panhandle and surrounding counties join an interlocal agreement to finance court costs seeking a declaratory judgment on LB 344 and the constitutionality of a property tax for the community college system. Banner County Clerk Robert Downer said the move aims to resolve whether the area boards can levy up to 2.5 mills for operations and construction before the 1976 tax start. Dawes County Commissioner rejection leaves Scotts Bluff undecided. The petition to the Nebraska Supreme Court for original jurisdiction may be filed today.
