Sidney merchants plan a downtown Sidewalk Sale this Saturday July 25 from 9 a m to 5 30 p m. The event is pitched as a sale of sales with top bargain merchandise spilling onto the sidewalk. Shoppers are urged to follow Telegraph ads for the best deals in a summertime buying carnival.
Census figures show Dalton Gurley Lodgepole and Potter shrinking from 1960 to 1970, joining Sidney in Cheyenne County losses that total more than 4,300 residents. Sidney fell by 1,715, with Ordville and rural areas contributing to the overall decline as discussions ripple over potential census inaccuracies.
Wheat growers are urged to save samples of their 1970 crop for entry in the Wheat and Grain Show at the Cheyenne County Fair. The event, sponsored by the Cheyenne County Certified Seed Growers, offers two divisions Certified and Market with six classes in each. Entry deadline is Friday Aug 7 at noon. Grand Champion and Reserve Champion trophies awarded in each division. winners inscribed on the Sweepstakes plaque. Entries must meet field inspection for the Certified division. market entries may be any variety but not the same variety in both divisions. Awards range from 50 cents to $1.25 per ribbon.
Lincoln notices six state owned land tracts to be offered for oil and gas lease at a sale on Tuesday August 4. Tracts include Garden County Sec 36 16 45 and Sec 36 15 45 all in, Morrill County N% Lot 1 SEs SW% Sec 16 20 51 covering 398.65 acres, Sioux County Sec 16 34 53, Custer County Sec 36 16 22 and Sec 36 14 20.
Federal assistance exceeding $12,000 has been granted to the Sidney school system under Public Law 874. Supt Russell Pedersen was notified that an initial payment of $12,222 will be granted for federally impacted students whose parents work at Western Nebraska Vocational Technical School. In the fall an additional $1,500 will be received. This does not relate to the proposed 50 family plan for the Vo-Tech School.
Tom Price of Lingle and Alex Brown of Dalton named to represent the Wyo Braska Area Council BSA at the XIII World Jamboree in Japan this August. The 20 day trip includes an eight day Japan tour and a nine day encampment at Asagiri Heights near Mt Fuji. Scouts will compete in skills trade tokens campfire gatherings and cultural exchanges reflecting Scouting around the world.

Bids were opened at two o clock this afternoon for oil and gas leasing of about 1590 acres on the southeast corner of the former Sioux Army Depot reservation, with the Bureau of Land Management handling the process. Result not available at presstime.
A field trip to Scottsbluff is planned this Friday as part of the Summer Recreation Program under Bob Roach the director. All elementary and secondary students may join, with registration by 5 p.m Thursday at Sidney city offices. Attendance is first come first served with no fee. The trip departs at 8 a.m from the Junior High tennis courts and returns at 8:30 p.m. The itinerary includes Scottsbluff Zoo in the morning and Scotts Bluff monument in the afternoon.
The Panhandle forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with scattered thunder showers this afternoon and tonight. Thursday should be generally fair with highs around 75 to 85 and a low near 50 to 60. Rain chances are about 30 percent this afternoon and tonight, near zero on Thursday.

Meissner reported his right rear door struck while parked on 9th Avenue. Billiott's parked car was struck on Illinois Street. Adams scraped a bumper while leaving a space. no damage to the other vehicle.

Elevators report steady grain movement with a second rush expected, Jim Ledbetter of Chappell estimating 100000 bushels oats, 50000 rye, 50000 wheat more. Last week’s extreme heat pushed harvest crews in Lodgepole to the limit as a boxcar thermometer climbed to 160 degrees while temperatures topped 100 outside. Cool, humid weather and looming storms followed, with FAA reports noting modest moisture and rising humidity, signaling unsettled skies.

Harvest estimates for needed help are usually based on prior years, but this week breaks the pattern with Sunday 1,000 above expectations, Monday 851 over and Tuesday 700 over.
