The Lowe Down By Jack H Lowe
A quirky column from Lorenza recounts floodfull woes on winter wheat while poking at relatives and humor. It mixes farce about bullfrogs trampling crops with a rambling family history and local updates from Dalton including library notes, church events, and harvest tidings.
Dalton News in July Activities and Local Events
The Dalton column records a busy week with performances by six girls led by Bonnie Jean Worth at a local movie, visits by Sophie Geis to her brother Freddie in Greenwood, and Betty Taylor from Sidney visiting friends. Community groups meet at Lutheran and St Mary’s churches, a sousaphone fund drive is noted, and annual American Legion officers are elected. School board reorganization brings Elmer Mayer as chairman and George Kivett as a new member. A big fire destroys 25 to 30 acres of wheat in a Friday incident, and various residents travel, visit, or host gatherings amid frequent infrastructure updates and a lingering bout of rain.
