Nebraska hearing eyes feeder airline service in Seven States Case

Civil Aeronautics Board Examiner Curtis Henderson opened hearings in Omaha on Nebraska’s portion of the Seven States Air Case. Sidney leaders Ralph Thompson and Murrey Fuller urged service, noting oil fields and Sioux Ordnance Depot need. Ozark Air Line showed interest, while Frontier predicted two daily Sidney flights if authorized. formal plans follow in September in Washington.

Lark Tickets On Sale In Sidney For August Run

The Central City Opera House association brings a mobile box office to Sidney on Friday August 3 with Robert Sweets handling the replica of the mining town lace house. Tickets for Julie Harris in The Lark go on sale 10 to 12 noon at a central Sidney location. The Lark opens August 4 at the Central City Opera House for 33 performances through September 1 with a New York cast joining Harris.

Rites Yesterday For John A Blair 57

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon for John A. Blair age 57 who died early Tuesday morning in Memorial Hospital. The Rev C Fred Parks officiated at SOD Community Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Craig Mortuary assisted. Blair had worked at Sioux Ordnance Depot as a foreman for nine years. Pallbearers named from SOD included Warold Leggett Warren Ballard Vincent Phillips Thomas McFadden John Prester Lyle Goddard John Reynolds and Galvin Emerson.

Attorney Not Client To Be Investigated In Court Order

Cheyenne County District Court ordered a mental examination for the defendant. The bench notes reveal the attorney, not the client, is to undergo the investigation to determine mental condition in the forgery case.

Sidneyites Use More Electricity In June Report

Sidney residents used more electricity in June than a year earlier with 2 099 residential customers up from 2 060. Average usage was 23 kilowatt hours per customer and the typical bill was 5 80. In June 1955 the average residential use was 219 kilowatt hours and the bill 5 59. National averages show 233 kilowatt hours and a 6 14 bill for residential customers while commercial users averaged 627 kilowatt hours and a 17 60 bill. Over the past year the plant generated 16 254 200 kwh with 83 percent lineless and 3 4 percent for station usage.

Balance Drops In First Six Months

Cheyenne County treasurer Herb Stevens reports a six month period with receipts of 1 376 053 04 and disbursements of 1 578 287 92. End of June balance stood at 1 039 394 99, down from 1 241 629 87 on January 1. Funds include 362 320 in government bonds, 44974 489 8 in banks and 2 585 18 in cash.

County Bond Sales Show Cheyenne Leads in Nebraska Pace

Cheyenne County residents bought 67979 dollars of Series E and H savings bonds in June, lifting county sales to 785672 dollars for the year. Old Union Pacific Locomotive To Be Moved To Legion Park

The Union Pacific Engine No. 407 donated to the Cheyenne County Historical Association may be moved Tuesday to a concrete base in Legion Park. Rogers Truck Lines will provide pulling power and equipment. Burlington officials will supply crew access from the Tenth Ave crossing in Sidney. Ready Mixed Concrete Co. and Inland Construction Co. lay the base, with a sidewalk and fence to follow.

Harvest Work Near Finish Over County

Cheyenne County winter wheat harvest near completion as mopping up continues. Dalton area yields around 25 bushels per acre, lower than last year, with no return until Monday. Gurley and Lodgepole regions near final stages. test weights 62 to 64 pounds and protein slightly over 12 percent.

Funeral today for Ira G Lund Sr 69 in North Platte

Final rites for Ira G Lund Sr aged 69 were held at 2 PM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev Henry Monnich conducting. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery. Lund died Monday evening after five days in a North Platte hospital. He worked 30 years for the Union Pacific railroad as a district lineman in the telegraph department. Survived by wife Elizabeth and son Ira G Lund Jr of North Platte.

Funeral services were held yesterday at the First Methodist Church for Mrs Helena Bell Ledingham 82 who died Monday at her Sidney home after months of ill health. Rev R L Townsend officiated with burial in Kimball Cemetery beside her husband Adam Ledingham who died in 1936. New Drilling Co spudded the Thompson No. 1 in the Thompson Oil Field just south of the Sioux Ordnance Depot main gate for Kingwood Aurora Oil. Other county activity includes several wells in Kimball County with four producers and four dry holes among fourteen rotary rigs.
