Government Lands to be Irrigated in Western Nebraska
The State Board of Irrigation reports a large western Nebraska tract withdrawn for irrigation under the reclamation act. Nearly all of Scotts Bluff, half of Banner, and large Cheyenne counties are included, totaling 36 townships and 1 224 square miles. If surveys show feasibility, the government will fund irrigation with costs charged to homesteaders. Over 250000 dollars is available to begin work, with irrigation from the North Platte River and storage reservoirs. The plan aims to test water resources and storage limits to justify the venture and expand irrigable land across arid districts.
