School Board Uses Cash Reserves to Keep Tax Rate Flat

The Sidney Board of Education unanimously agreed to tap up to 150000 from cash reserves in the new 1.8 million budget to avoid a tax increase. They also raised nonresident tuition rates and approved a 77,000 bond fund while projecting steady mill levies depending on revenue and state aid.

Council approves fiscal 1976 budget with big tax hike

The city votes a fiscal 1976 budget increasing the all purpose mill levy by 21 percent. With an estimated city property value of 13.8 million dollars, Sidney taxpayers face about 30.25 dollars per thousand in valuation, up from 23.96 the prior year, while overall expenditures are nearly 300 thousand dollars less than last year. The council also tables actions on a board of adjustment and two variance requests and discusses cemetery lot rates and other items before adjourning.

Local Pianists Invited To Play Century-Old Fort Sidney Piano

Cheyenne County Historical Association invites local pianists to perform on the 1877 Knabe square grand in the Fort Sidney Commander's Home during Sunday tours from 1 to 5 pm. The instrument, bought from the McFadden family, has 83 keys and a rosewood cabinet. signups are through Mrs Ken McMillen or Mrs CW Cutright.
