Oren McHarness, 32, sentenced to 18 months in the state penitentiary by District Judge I. J. Nisley for violating a May parole on a no fund check. He allegedly wrote more bad checks in the Scottsbluff area. Special Judge Nisley approved a special jury call for Thursday to accommodate Francis Taylor who pleaded innocent to bigamy and requested a speedy trial.

School Dist 21 reports 683 children ages 5 to 20, up from 579 last year and 637 in 1954. The 1956 census shows 437 in the compulsory 5 to 16 range. In ages zero to four there are 119 toddlers. Girls outnumber boys 71 to 48 in pre school.

Walter F. Peterson of Sutton Nebraska has been named agronomist for safflower at USDA Agricultural Research Service. He will base at Scottsbluff Nebraska with trials at Box Butte and irrigated plots in Scottsbluff. His work supports breeding expansion and cultural practice studies as safflower adapts to western Nebraska and nearby Wyoming and Colorado. Plains Oil Mills in Sidney now processes safflower seeds for oil and protein.
