Oats and Weeds Challenge Nebraska Fields

Nebraska oats face weed pressure as timing proves crucial for herbicide success. University expert Loren Robison warns oats are highly sensitive to 2,4-D and injury risk peak before the six to seven leaf stage. He advises 2,4-D amine at 1/2 lb acre or MCPA at 1 lb acre for broadleaf weeds, and recommends Dicamba plus MCPA for wild buckwheat present in two to three leaf growth stage. Timeliness remains key to effective control and minimizing crop injury.
