Peru Wheat Tour Group Arrives in Texas

Six Peruvian men arrive in Texas for an agricultural tour of the Great Plains sponsored by the Great Plains Wheat Market Development Assn and partner states. They will visit wheat fields farms port facilities mills bakeries colleges and research centers while touring stops across Kansas Nebraska Wyoming Colorado and beyond. Their aim is to promote hard red winter wheat in foreign markets and strengthen U S Peru agricultural cooperation.

Five year old Bruce Livoni walked into The American National Bank on Saturday morning and asked to see his two dollars in a savings account. Bank President Don Jorgenson asked if he wished to withdraw. the boy replied no, he just wanted to see it. Jorgenson then showed him a vault stack of silver dollars. the lad left with his father and executive vice president George Barlow quipped that the kid sounds like a bank examiner.

Hail Study Stopped Over Funding Shortage

The hail suppression study in northeast Colorado, launched in May by CSU assistant research engineer Dr. Richard A. Schleusener, is halted after about two months due to the Colorado Water Conservation board refusing to provide funds. Assistants at CSU were aiding the project.

Hail and wind devastate east of Dalton and south of Sunol

A severe hail wind storm struck about 10 miles east of Dalton and south of Sunol along the Nebraska Colorado border Sunday evening. It caused extensive wheat destruction with some fields 100 percent ruined. Rain and hail delayed harvesting across the county while elevators reported mixed receipts. Farmers face ongoing cuts as weather cooperates.

Oil Leases Fetch Big Sums At Nebraska Auction

Nebraska state lands brought in 37372 dollars from oil and gas leases on 23755 acres sold to seven buyers. Thomas D Christopher paid 3200 dollars for a 640 acre Cheyenne County lease at 5 50 per acre eight miles east and north of Sidney. The largest buyer was Fed A Glassco of Wichita who acquired 10257 acres in Chase Dundy and Hayes Counties for 11678 dollars.

Girl Recovering From Leg Injury

A ten year old Sidney girl is recovering satisfactorily at Memorial Hospital from a severe leg wound sustained in a bicycle mishap Saturday morning. Judy Lea Hartshorn fell turning at a street intersection when the pedal shaft pierced her leg above the knee. The pedal bolt passed through the leg, and rescue workers called a physician and anesthetist to remove it.

The forecast calls for clear to partly cloudy skies tonight and Tuesday with scattered thunder showers tonight and Tuesday after noon. Lows near 55 to 60 and highs from 85 to 95.

Gary White Earns Eagle Scout Award Second Daltonite

Gary White son of Mr and Mrs Ira White of Dalton became the second Dalton Boy Scout to earn the Eagle Scout Award. He received the badge from Scoutmaster Kenwood Andersen during a court of honor at the high school auditorium. Lloyd Graff of Dalton was the first from the area to reach this rank nine years earlier in 1950.

Elm Creek Driver Fined for Drunken Driving

Carl Q Larson, 39, of Elm Creek Neb was fined 100 and costs in Cheyenne County court on a drunken driving charge. Larson also had his driving license suspended for six months by Judge C W Smith.

State's 59 Wheat Forecast Trimmed by 11 Million
